Ethics at the Core: MSU Tawi-Tawi Promotes Responsible Research Practices
The MSU-TCTO Committee on Research and Ethics (CoRE) conducted the Basic Research Ethics Training (BRET) last April 2-3 at the Conference Room, Sabdani J. Bulante Hall. The initiative, chaired by Assoc. Prof. Najeeb Razul A. Sali, aims to ensure full compliance with the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB) requirements for Level I Accreditation. The speakers were from PHREB, Prof. Peter A. Sy and Dr. Gemma N. Balein, who shared their expertise in promoting ethical standards in research practices. Thirty-one (31) participants, including MSU-TCTO CoRE members, research coordinators, extension research coordinators, and representatives from MSU Sulu, attended the event. This initiative aligns with the broader goal of conducting scientifically and ethically sound research for the good of humanity, adhering to principles of beneficence, nonmaleficence, respect for individuals, and justice, with gender and cultural sensitivity, third-party considerations, ethical researchers, and approval by a research ethics committee.
