The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension, in partnership with the College of Islamic and Arabic Studies, successfully conducted the MSU-TCTO's OVCRE LECTURE SERIES 5 with a theme "Bridging Knowledge and Faith: Exploring Islamic and Arabic Studies in Contemporary Times" on February 27, 2025, at Marine Science Museum. This was conducted in a timely manner, coinciding with the onset of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

The Development Academy of the Philippines and MSU-TCTO signed a Memorandum of Agreement on the establishment of the DAP Field Office in Tawi Tawi on March 7, 2023 at the Sabdani Bulante Conference Room.

2023, February

The College of Islamic and Arabic Studies launched Hijab Awareness Campaign with a short activity on February 1 at the Student Center. The activity aims to promote the importance of wearing hijab and raise awareness against Islamic radicalism and extremism. Chancellor Mary Joyce Guinto-Sali and College Dean Almira Hadji graced the activity and assisted the students in the proper way of wearing the Hijab.

Chancellor Dr. Mary Joyce Z. Guinto-Sali signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the University and the Marine Battalion Landing Team 12 to conduct “Pagsumadja: Defending Peace and Sustaining Moral Governance through Islamic Teachings,” a fellowship program among local imams and gurus of Tawi-Tawi on January 30 at the Sabdani J. Bulante Hall, Conference Room.

MSU-TCTO has faced the COVID-19 pandemic with resiliency and vigor despite the challenges and restrictions. The university took the opportunity to continue its efforts in improving university governance by strengthening good practices, implementing sound fiscal policies, providing smooth transition to distance learning conditions, and establishing more linkages with other institutions.

2020

The year 2020 presented many challenges across the globe. On one side is the continued armed struggle, political and civil unrest, and religious and systemic racial discrimination while the other grapples with destruction caused by climate change-induced natural disasters and worsening economic downturn. However, topping them all is the advent of the pandemic brought by a new type of coronavirus disease now known as COVID-19. Nations trembled as it spread, infecting one individual after the other. Each country tremendously suffered as the pandemic wreaked havoc which gradually affected people of all walks of life. The pandemic swept the world and crippled each nation socially, politically and economically and one of the sectors heavily affected is the academe.

2019

The creation of the Mindanao State University (MSU) is one of the government’s responses to the so-called “Mindanao Problem” and the 1954 Congressional Committee conceptualized it as “a social laboratory for national integration” of Muslims and other ethnolinguistic cultural minorities.

2018

The Mindanao State University – Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography is an autonomous university campus of the Mindanao State University System, located at the southwestern part of the Philippines. As an academic institution, it offers quality education from pre-school to post baccalaureate degrees.
