IPDM Distributes Solar Lights to Sama Bajau Families in Bangkaw Layohan
MSU TCTO’s Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao (IPDM) has successfully distributed solar light kits to all 87 Sama Bajau families residing in Bangkaw Layohan, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi. This initiative was made possible through the generous support of the Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation, under their “Solar Scholar Program,” in partnership with the Tzu Chi Foundation–Philippines.
Each family received a kit composed of a solar panel, a light bulb, and a Xiaomi power bank. The distribution aims to address the pressing issue of energy access in remote communities by providing sustainable and practical lighting solutions. The program is part of the Yellow Boat of Hope’s broader mission to ensure that no child is left behind simply because they cannot study after dark—and that families in underserved areas can live with greater dignity, safety, and hope.
This effort was realized through the leadership of MSU TCTO Chancellor Dr. Mary Joyce Z. Guinto-Sali, whose continued commitment to inclusive development has guided IPDM’s outreach to marginalized communities across Tawi-Tawi.
MSU TCTO extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation for their generosity and for trusting IPDM to help bring light and renewed hope to the Sama Bajau community.
