We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the late Senator Santanina Tillah Rasul.
Dr. Santanina Rasul was a Commissioner for Muslim and other ethnic minorities from 1978-1987; Senator from 1987-1992 and 1992-1995; and was a champion of Muslim and women’s rights. She was the prime mover for the passage of Republic Act 6949 which declared March 8 as the National Women's Day in the Philippines and RA 7192 or the Women in Development and Nation-Building Act, which outlawed discrimination against women and opened the doors of the Philippine Military Academy to women cadets.
She was married to former Ambassador Abraham Rasul, with whom she had six children, including Honorable Amina Rasul-Bernardo, a member of the MSU Board of Regents.
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.
